The Best Upland Bird Hunting Boots At Ball and Buck

The history of hunting can be traced back to the very dawn of man. It was not a sport. It was a necessity. You hunted to survive. The clothes on your back, the shoes on your feet, even the weapons you used were provided by the very game you hunted. But as with time, so too has hunting evolved. We no longer rely on pelts to keep us warm or bone spears to deliver the final blow. From our weapons to our clothing, we use the very best technology has to offer. This is especially true when we consider the protection of our feet.
Hunting is an all-day affair and your boots can mean the difference between an enjoyable- and successful experience, or absolute misery. From traversing dangerous scree fields to traipsing through deep thickets and slogging through mud, top quality footwear is absolutely vital in chasing down your prey. You don’t want the squishing sounds of wet soles to alert your prey to your approach, and you certainly don’t want to cut your trip short due to blisters or other foot injuries. Protecting your feet is a key priority in the success and enjoy-ability of a hunt. Upland hunting boots combine the very best technology has to offer with a classic style that provides hunters with both protection and comfort through every possible terrain.
Made in the USA, Upland hunting boots are as rugged and durable as the country we live. Russell's South 40 Bird Shooter® was designed specifically for Upland Bird Shooters who need all the help they can get in the way of comfort, support and protection. The concept for this boot came directly from a group of avid South Dakota pheasant hunters and loyal Russell moccasin customers; thus the name, the South 40 Bird Shooter®.
The South 40 Bird Shooter® has double vamp construction plus a hand molded outer sole to which a midsole is attached, and then the molded sole and midsole are cemented and stitched to the side of the moccasin foot, making it extremely difficult for moisture to penetrate the lower portion of the boot. The molded sole offers additional support and protection, and gives you a triple vamp boot.
Weather TuffTM is a full grain leather with a feather light density. It presents an impenetrable barrier to water, remaining fully breathable to pass perspiration even after total immersion. Ultra low water absorption assures the boot will retain its light weight when hunting in low wet areas. Soles are lightweight but rugged Vibram Huez, with addition of foam midsole and arch supporting wedge cushion in the foot and heel. A pair size 8 weighs 3 lbs. The 9" height offers excellent leg and ankle protection. If hunting in hilly areas or have a tendency to walk heels over, we recommend boot be ordered with heel counters.
