How To Make A Bacon Milkshake

by Winston Hughes on 01/09/14

We felt it was good time to introduce a few ideas for "comfort food" so here is how to make a bacon milkshake.

The concept of a bacon milkshake is not that new. In fact, several well-known fast food franchises have released various versions of it with mixed success. In February, 2012, the popular American fast food franchise, “Jack in the Box,” launched a “Bacon Shake,” as the highlight of their “Marry Bacon” campaign. This limited edition milkshake was so élite, it was not even listed on their in-house menu. Instead, bacon fans were encouraged to ask for this mad creation at the counter. Believe it or not, their milkshake wasn’t actually made of bacon. Jack in the Box used a vegan-friendly, bacon-flavored syrup to create the allusion of a bacon-infused drink. The milkshake was only offered for a short time and was not greatly received by the wider community. Most reviews reported that the drink was simply garbage. The milkshake was merely a vanilla ice-cream with a spattering of artificial bacon bits, topped with whipped cream and maraschino cherry.

Bacon Milkshakes on Restaurant Menus

As crazy as the concept may seem, the idea sure does attract bacon lovers, forcing other large fast food companies to embrace the bacon sensation. Wendy’s played around with the idea of a bacon shake for a while, whilst burger king offered a bacon sundae for those willing to give it a shot. Today, Denny's offers their own version of a maple bacon sundae and maple bacon shake for the brave at heart. Across the country there are many food trucks whipping up some truly amazing bacon milkshake creations that force one to think outside the square when it comes to whipping up a milkshake at home. For those who are not too concerned about the fat content of a delicious treat, then this milkshake recipe should appeal to all purveyors of bacon!

Creativity with Bacon

Bacon is great on its own, paired with eggs or even wrapped around vegetables and meat cuts as a way to add flavor. Let’s face it, bacon just makes things better! And one of the more creative ways to enjoy bacon is with this surprisingly yummy milkshake that you can make at home.

The Tastiest Bacon Milkshake

You will need the following ingredients:

1) 6 slices of real, quality bacon – any bacon that you prefer
2) 1 cup of vanilla flavored ice-cream
3) ½ a cup of milk
4) 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil or butter
5) 1 egg
6) ½ a teaspoon of vanilla extract
7) 4 ice cubes
8) 1 – 2 large tablespoons of Nestle Dulce de Leche - In the Can*

* Nestle Dulce de Leche - In the Can is a delicious thick caramel made of milk and sugar. You can find it in the imported foods aisle of any supermarket. It is well-worth finding as this delicious product tastes great poured over ice-cream and used in milkshakes. However, if you are unable to find it, simply substitute this item with a tablespoon of condensed milk and a tablespoon of breakfast syrup or maple syrup.

Step 1

Place a frying pan on the stove top over a medium heat. Melt the butter or margarine and then lay the bacon strips out in the pan. Fry the bacon, turning occasionally, until crispy. Remove the bacon from the pan and lay it on a plate to cool.

Step 2

Put the four ice cubes into a blender. The ice cubes help to make the milkshake thick and creamy. Scoop in a cup of ice-cream and add the milk. Crack an egg into a cup first to make sure it is fresh, and to avoid pieces of shell in the mix. Pour the egg in. Add the vanilla extract and a generous amount of the Dulce de Leche.

Step 3

Take four pieces of the crispy bacon and crumble it into the blender with your hands.

Step 4

Place the lid on the blender, and holding it on tightly; process the contents until the drink is thick and smooth. Allow time for the bacon to be chopped finely. The finished blend will have tiny specks of bacon through it.

Step 5

Divide the milkshake evenly between two, tall milkshake glasses. Garnish each drink with a rasher of bacon by inserting it into the drink like you would a straw.
